Victorian Diseases Framed Petri Dish Set

A unique piece of science-meets-art.

A themed set of three 'Victorian Diseases' : Tuberculosis (TB), Syphilis  Cholera in a mix of large, medium and small Petri dishes, with crochet 'agar' bases and pathogens made in a mix of deluxe hand dyed yarns.

I've crocheted and/or needle felted giant versions of how these bacteria, labelled with the diseases they cause, appear under an electron microscope. Big artistic liberties have been taken with form, colour, size and the fact that they they would never be grown in a lab on a petri dish! The aim is to make these microscopic bacteria vibrant, visible and engaging.

On the back of the frame is a list of the bacteria names:

Treponema pallidum- cause of Syphilis

Mycobacterium tuberculosis- cause of TB

Vibrio cholerae- cause of Cholera

Presented in a square waxed frame with glass front (the photos are mostly taken with glass removed to avoid reflections). The frame measures 19cm x 19cm, depth of 3.3cm. Please note: the mini Petri dishes dispalyed in the front of the photo are not included.
